[Page 57] Aru no Ishi

Mister Muscles with the smoking habit is named Tchang. It's an older romanization of 짱, a Korean term used as slang to mean "the best".

I had to call out our other masked "friend" for the Char Aznable vibe. Blonde? Red color scheme? A mask? Yep, that's Char.

Though "chuunibyou" is a term that pops up in anime and manga, I wouldn't fault anyone for being unfamiliar with it like Tchang is. Chuunibyou is a term that loosely translates to "eighth-grader syndrome". Typically, it refers to young teens who desperately aspire to be something greater than what they are, and often tend to act as though they have some kind of supernatural capacity.

Important Terms

  • Wakkanai (稚内市 <wakkanai-shi>) - A city in northern Hokkaido, Japan. The primary location where the comic takes place! Also sounds like wakan'nai, slang for "I don't know".
  • Magi Soldat (マジソルダット <majisorudatto>) - The out-of-universe term for our protagonists! In-universe, they just call themselves mahou senshi (magic soldier).

Eventually, this will be a glossary of dialog terms and sound effects.
  • ami - The French ami, meaning friend.
